PE by Choice
The PE by Choice model serves to accommodate the goals of 21st century education by providing students more autonomy in how they learn curriculum, and provides them skills to be used beyond high school in a genuine environment.
StructureStudents choose the units they participate in from 5 categories (Team/Individual Sports, Non-Traditional Sports, Fitness, Wellness, & Recreation). Students are required to complete one unit from each category in order to successfully complete the course. Each unit will last 1 to 2 weeks and will include an assessment at its conclusion. Offerings are flexible and can be altered depending on class size, popularity, and need. Units in the Wellness category are mandatory and all students will complete them. These units will cover essential health topics and lifelong wellness strategies.

InstructionStudents will be exposed to a variety of teaching methods; including different teaching styles, team teaching, differentiated instruction, peer instruction, and self-directed instruction. Many units can be designed to allow students to learn similar material in a manner that fits their learning style. For example: female only fitness unit / nutrition needs as a freshman vs college nutrition / competitive volleyball & recreation volleyball. Having different groupings will encourage students to participate in units they may otherwise have elected not to choose.
