Grading Policy
A student’s participation makes up the majority of his/her course grade. A consistent lack of participation will result in a failing grade for the course. Participation - Students are graded for participation using the PE Daily Participation Rubric. This rubric includes grades on preparation, effort, cooperation, sportsmanship, and attitude. Other classwork, quizzes, and projects will make up the remainder of your grade. The number of assignments and specific worth of each will vary depending on which P.E. course you are enrolled in. Locker Policy BOYS: Lockers are available on a first come, first serve basis. See your P.E. teacher and they will assign you a locker. Students may only use the lockers while they are enrolled in a P.E. class (or playing a sport); lockers must be cleared out at the end of the semester. GIRLS: Locks are available for use while you are enrolled in a PE class, see your P.E. teacher. The cost of lost locks is $5 if not returned at the end of the school year. Valuable items (mostly iPods and cell phones) have been stolen in years past. The P.E department is not liable for lost or stolen items in the locker rooms. To protect your belongings, we can lock your bags in the training room or you may lock your valuables in the P.E office. Change of Clothes Policy All students must bring a proper change of clothes (t-shirt/long sleeve shirt/shorts/sweat pants, etc.) and adequate athletic footwear (no boots, sandals, heals, or open backed footwear etc.) Remember that the school dress code is still in effect during Physical Education. If you do not change into proper P.E. attire, you may not participate in the class activity for that day. Students who are unprepared are required to complete a "participation make up assignment". Students may only complete 2 makeup assignments per semester. Unexcused absences from school are considered a “personal day/no change day”. The absence must be excused through the office or by a doctor’s note. Food and Drink Policy Food and drink are not allowed in the weight room or gym. Water bottles are allowed. Please be mindful of this if you have class first block and have a coffee, drink, or food when arriving for class. Water in a clear container is allowed into the classroom, however this at the discretion of your teacher. You may use the vending machines at the end of the athletic hallway at the beginning and the end of class. You may not use the vending machines in the cafeteria at any time during a P.E. education. |
Injury/Health & Unexcused Absence Policy
A doctor’s note must be presented in order to be excused from a P.E. class due to injury or illness. A doctor’s note must be then presented in order to participate in class when returning from an injury or illness. If you claim to be injured in class as an excuse to sit out of an activity you must go the nurse’s office to be examined. If you refuse to go to the nurse’s office you will get a zero for participation for that day. Please discuss participation with your teacher if your injury is or becomes long term during the course of the semester (i.e, over two weeks) to discuss an alternate grading method. Missing P.E. class to make-up tests, complete missed assignments, or finish homework for other classes is NOT an excused absence and cannot be used as a student’s “personal day”. Language Policy Swearing will not be tolerated. You will be sent to the office and receive a zero for the day. No excuses for inappropriate language. Please use mature language during classroom discussions. Nicknames and slang terms are inappropriate. Technology Policy Please limit cell phone use only to class activities. Be mindful of where you put your phone during class. Having it in your pocket or on the bleachers risks damage to your phone. We do allow students to listen to music when exercising in the weight room, but not while participating in activities in the gym. Fitness Center Rules Wear appropriate clothing (including sneakers). Be respectful of the equipment: use the equipment only as it is intended to be used! The coach’s office is adjacent to the wellness center. Please keep the volume of the stereo at a reasonable level out of respect. Please make sure the lyrical content is clean and appropriate for a school setting. Put everything (all weights, etc) back in their correct places. This also includes throwing any trash you may have away in the trash basket. Student-Athlete Policy Academics always come before school athletics. You must be a student before you can be an athlete. “I have a game today” is not a legitimate excuse for lack of participation and effort in any P.E class. |
