Strength Training - (Fitness)
Students will learn basic strength training concepts with a concentration on functional fitness and foundational multi-joint movements. During the unit students will learn how to perform the core movements and practice them within workouts of their choice. Bowling - (Recreational Activities) During this unit students will learn the rules, scoring, and game play of bowling. The focus will be on learning the basics of this lifelong activity, and how students can participate in it after their time in high school. Spin Cycling - (Fitness) During this unit students will have access to various spin cycle workouts in the fitness room. Workouts will emphasize cardiovascular endurance. Bikes are limited, students may use other cardio equipment if all bikes are occupied.

Strength Training - (Fitness)

During the unit students will learn how to perform the core movements and practice them within workouts of their choice. Non-Traditional Team Games - (Recreational Activities) These games are a collection of non-traditional team games that incorporate concepts of team play, movement patterns, and fitness. The focus of the unit will be on effort and participation. The games in this unit will include gatorball, ultimate frisbee, tchoukball, kickball, and others. Spin Cycling - (Fitness) During this unit students will have access to various spin cycle workouts in the fitness room. Workouts will emphasize cardiovascular endurance. Bikes are limited, students may use other cardio equipment if all bikes are occupied. Ropes Course - (Recreational Activities)
Students will participate on the challenge course, completing low element group activities that focus on teamwork and communication. The focus of each activity will be for students to challenge themselves, take risks, and work with the group to complete each element. For a description of the elements visit the challenge course page. Students should be prepared to be outside even during inclement weather! Group Fitness/Weight Room - (Fitness) The focus of this unit will be on group fitness activities and weight room concepts. Group fitness activities will include TRX suspension training, zumba, and spin cycling. Weight room workouts will include concepts of strength training and functional fitness, allowing students to build off previous work within the fitness category or learn new concepts. Students will be able to choose either option within the weight room unit. |
