Strength Training - (Fitness)
Students will learn basic strength training concepts with a concentration on functional fitness and foundational multi-joint movements. During the unit students will learn how to perform the core movements and practice them within workouts of their choice. CPR - (Wellness) Students will learn the basic skill of adult/child/infant CPR, how to use an AED, and the skills to help a choking victim. Material will be presented using the American Heart Association Heartsaver program. Students have to option of getting certified; the certification costs $22 for card processing. Basketball - (Team & Individual Sports) During this unit students will learn the rules, skills, and concepts of basketball through small-sided competitive games and skill specific games. The focus will be on skill improvement and game understanding, while also emphasizing fitness concepts including cardiovascular benefits and effort.
